Grasta's Beauty & Wig Salon offers hair style options

Sharon Grasta, of Grasta's Beauty & Wig Salon, has been in the beauty business almost all her life. As a young girl she was very interested in hairdressing and the styling of wigs. She faithfully helped her mother every day in her family's business located in Rochester. Later she pursued her interest and graduated from Continental and the Chadwick of England Beauty School. During the 1960s, Sharon had the opportunity to meet the daughter of a wig supplier. This woman took her under her wing and thoroughly trained her on the varying qualities of wigs and how to tell when the product was not a top quality piece.

Formerly, Sharon is a beautician and a wig shop owner. The word "beauty" is her business name but Sharon has now devoted all of her time to only selling hair systems, wigs, wiglets, toupees and all accessories such as turbans, scarves and products to care for the wigs. Not only does Grasta help medical patients to deal with the loss of hair, she also has a large customer base of actors, singers and dancer.

Changing your hair style, covering up that "bad hair-day", or just for the fun of it is back in style. Grasta has been noticing that more and more customers are coming to her to add temporary length or to just change a style for that special occasion.

Read some testimonies from some of Grasta's customers.

Sister A.

Dear Sharon,

Thank you for all you did to help me find a wig. You were kind and professional. I learned much from you and although I did not make use of your services, I appreciated the time you spent and the tips you gave me. You perform a wonderful help for people who need support in a field where they are not comfortable. So again, Thank you!

Sincerely,

Sister A.

Anita

Dear Sharon,

Thank you so much for helping me during this difficult time. Ever since I was first diagnosed with cancer I have felt very afraid and alone. I was instantly horrified about losing my hair with chemotherapy treatment. You made it all ok. I cam into your shop on a one on one basis and was made to feel like a person and not a cancer patient. You gave me personal and private attention. You spent over 2 hours on my first visit to fit me and find a wig that not only looks like my hair, but feels soft and fits comfortably as well. Many of my friends and co-workers have commented on how beautiful my hair looks. I thank you so much for your special attention and your time you have spent with me. You truly offer a service of tremendous value.

Yours truly,
Anita

Carol Cole

I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and had to have a mastectomy. I've had four surgeries since then. I also had to face chemo and radiation. One night I was watching TV and saw a piece about Grasta's Wig Shop. I was not looking forward to losing my hair, so when I called Grasta's she said she works with many cancer patients and people with hair loss. She sounded so pleasant on the phone, I made an appointment and I was amazed. All appointments are private and one-on-one. She'll spend as much time with you as needed and makes you feel so comfortable about yourself. The wigs are so natural looking, you say to yourself, that looks like me. She'll style or cut the wig or whatever it needs. I was very please with my purchase. She and I have made a new friendship and keep in touch often. She really cares about the person and their needs.

Cheri B.

Dear Sharon,

Many thanks for the wonderful wig you helped me choose. Losing my hair was the most devastating part of my treatment. But you made me comfortable in your shop, so that I didn't have to rush or feel uneasy with all my question. Beyond that, you made it fun with your great sense of humor!

I'm enclosing a picture of me with my new short haircut. I am actually enjoying it -- not much work, and it's right in style. Thank goodness for GEL!

Please have a wonderful holiday season.

With sincere appreciation,
Cheri B.

P.S. So far I'm still clear of cancer. I get blood test every 3 months.

You have always been very patient and experienced in the making of your wigs and maintaining their beauty. You have a wide variety of wigs to choose from and a very discreet, private setting. We have always appreciated the privacy you have provided together with that and your vast knowledge of your trade, I would highly recommend you!!!

Debbie Widman

Debbie Widman of Greece helped find a wig for her mother-in-law, who is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. "It's nice to try them on and see them. It's so hard to do that in a mail catalog," Widman said.

Dear Sharon,

I want to thank you for making me feel like a whole person with the help of your beautiful wigs. After I was diagnosed with Cancer, I was told that I would lose my hair due to Chemotherapy. I did not want to go through that alone. I saw your advertisement in my doctor’s office and decided to call. I was so fortunate to find someone like you who made it easy and made me feel like a normal person again.

You have always been so wonderful to me and have given me the support that I needed to face the world. You have such a unique and helpful process that would make anyone feel at ease. It is no wonder that your Salon is so reputable! Thank you for everything you have done for me!!!

Sincerely,
Dianne

Madeline O'Hara

Dear Sharon,

I am writing just a few people who made 2002 a bright, happy time for me. You, Sharon, are one of four people who made me feel special. You were the creator who gave me confidence with your fabulous wig selections and talent with wig styling. After going to a total of four other wig providers, you were the only one who bothered to measure my head, and who used sanitary measures with scalp caps. I always felt special when you took so much time trying on wigs, looking up color selections and styling the wigs. From the point of our first meeting at Flower City Park to several more meetings at your home, you always made time to measure me thoroughly and showed me many choices in wigs. You always took lots of time to style the wigs to see which was more flattering. And you regularly demonstrated a sincere and enthusiastic personality.

I found it a positive experience going to both shop locations. You are a "bright light" in my life, and I'm sure in many other customer's lives.

You have great talent and a loving, patient personality. May you enjoy health, happiness and prosperity.

Thank you,
Madeline O'Hara

Mary Graupman

Mary Graupman of Holley lost her hair three weeks after chemotherapy for breast cancer. Knowing that when she returned to work as a school teacher, she'd have to "look halfway decent," she tried her luck with several other wig shops before she found Grasta. The discovery was a blessed relief, according to Graupman.

"Some (salonists) out there are just in it for the money and they're condescending. Sharon's not like that. She took hours with me and she was very caring. You don't find that these days. And everyone thought (the wig) was real, my hair color," Graupman said.

Mary Jane P.

Sharon Grasta really enhanced my quality of life when she introduced me to a wig that greatly improved my self confidence and self-esteem. The color and style made the wig very becoming, and the quality and fit was excellent. I appreciated the privacy she provide and the time she spent with me. I feel we became good friends immediately with her caring and sincere attitude. I have already ordered another wig.

Thank you  Sharon

Lynn H.

Grasta's Beauty and Wig Salon had made my hair loss due to cancer an undramatic event. I found that not only could I still look exactly look exactly like myself, but even better! She helped me to find "myself", when she gave me back my look.

She was so compassionate, accommodating, and a true friend in my time of need. I would recommend Sharon to any one dealing with the issue of hair loss.

Hats off to you Sharon, from Lynn

Kathy LeBeau

Kathy is one of Grastas customers and recently started purchasing wigs "I have cancer and was looking around for wigs. I looked online but i was uncomfortable about purchasing without seeing how it looked on me first." said Kathy.

She said she was referred to Grastas by friends. "What I love about Sharon is that she sets up one-on-one appointments." Said Kathy "It's very personal"

Sharon believes this policy allows her to give her customers her undivided attention, "That made me feel very warm. When a customer comes in she will sit down with them, measure the circumference of their head and gave them a fishnet stocking for sanitary purchases so that they might try on wigs. I was very comfortable with Sharon she made me feel like home. I would recommend her highly to anyone."
